Superior No. 9H Stainless Steel Welding Backup Flux is formulated for welding of stainless steel using gas, inert-gas, or metallic arc welding processes. This flux prevents oxide inclusion formation; protects the backside from oxidation; supports the molten metal; and reduces burn-through. Using a stainless steel backup flux is the most cost-effective alternative for backside welding protection in places where Nitrogen, Argon or other costly gases cannot be used, as well as when back-up bars and back-up tape cannot be used.
During welding of stainless steel it is commonly for oxides to form on the backside of the weld, due to the high temperatures. These oxides are unsightly and unprofessional looking. Our No. 9H stainless steel welding back up flux offers a simple and cost effective solution to this problem. The No. 9H, which comes in powder form, is mixed with a solvent, such as methanol, into a paste consistency that can be easily brushed onto the surface of metal. Prior to welding, the welding backside flux (now in paste form) is then brushed onto the backside of the area to be welded. During welding, this layer of welding backup flux forms a protective layer on the stainless steel, preventing the area from forming oxides. After welding, the layer of hardened flux can be sanded off, leaving a clean surface that is clear of black oxide formations.
